July 21, 2026

  • Cat Forgione, CTA Sr. Director, CES Communications

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, owner and producer of CES®, launches a new category for the CES Innovation Awards® program: Art Tech, in partnership with Christie’s. The new category recognizes technology that meaningfully advances how art and cultural assets are created, experienced, preserved, owned and exchanged. As technology continues to expand creativity, the art tech category celebrates innovations that empower artists, elevate human expression and enhance cultural engagement.

“Art has always evolved alongside technology, from the invention of photography to digital media and beyond,” said Kinsey Fabrizio, President and CEO, CTA. “With the introduction of the Art Tech category for the CES Innovation Awards, we’re recognizing the innovators who are expanding what’s possible for artists, cultural institutions and audiences around the world. Partnering with Christie’s brings unmatched expertise, ensuring this category is shaped by leaders who truly understand the global art market.”

Developed in collaboration with Christie’s, the category highlights how emerging technologies are reshaping the art ecosystem while preserving its human core. Christie’s will also help curate a panel of expert judges for the category, drawing on its deep expertise and global network across the art market.

“This new category underscores how today’s technologies are supporting artists and institutions in profound ways — from creating immersive experiences to safeguarding cultural heritage,” said Devang Thakkar, Global Head of Christie’s Ventures. “We’re proud to partner with CTA to spotlight innovation that strengthens the vital role of artists in society.”

To qualify, submissions must demonstrate that technology is the core differentiator, not merely a delivery mechanism. The Art Tech category invites submissions across a broad spectrum of hardware, software and platforms, spanning five key areas:

  • Creative Tools: Technologies that expand how artists create, including generative AI, algorithmic engines and virtual reality environments

  • Audience Engagement: Innovations that transform how audiences experience art, such as augmented and virtual reality, projection mapping and immersive installations

  • Discovery and Context: Solutions for discovering and contextualizing art, including AI-powered curation tools, virtual docents and semantic archive search

  • Cultural Preservation: Technologies protecting cultural heritage, such as 3D scanning, digital twins and AI-assisted conservation

  • Authentication and Commerce: Innovations in authentication, valuation and commerce, including provenance tracking, blockchain ownership platforms and pricing analytics

The CES Innovation Awards program is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products. The introduction of the category, Art Tech, in Partnership with Christie’s, reflects the continued commitment of CES to showcase how technology drives progress across industries, including the arts and culture sector.
