CTA Awards $125K in Grants to Advance Las Vegas Sustainability Projects

January 5, 2026

Funding backs urban tree planting and energy-efficient infrastructure as CES 2026 kicks off in Las Vegas

Today, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® is announcing it intends to award $125,000 in support of two major City of Las Vegas sustainability projects through the CES® 2026 Green Grants program. Split evenly between the initiatives, the grants underscore CTA’s long-standing commitment to environmental innovation and to giving back to the community that hosts CES each year.

CTA Executive Chair and CEO Gary Shapiro and CTA President Kinsey Fabrizio, along with Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and local leaders, announced the grants during a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony marking the completion of the $600 million renovation of the Las Vegas Convention Center’s (LVCC) legacy campus and start of CES.

“CES is where innovators from around the world come together to build a better future,” said Kinsey Fabrizio, President, CTA. “We are proud to support the City of Las Vegas as it invests in safer, more energy-efficient infrastructure. These projects reflect the kind of forward-thinking leadership that aligns with CTA’s commitment to sustainability.”

This year’s funding will support two priority projects championed by the Mayor of Las Vegas:

  • Citywide Tree Planting Initiative: Part of the city’s goal to plant 60,000 trees to reduce urban heat, expand shade coverage, and improve long-term resilience. Trees cost approximately $15–$20 each, depending on size.
  • Energy-Efficient Streetlight Upgrades: A citywide effort to replace high-energy streetlights with modern, low-energy LED fixtures to significantly reduce municipal power consumption and improve nighttime visibility.

“For more than two decades, CTA has invested in programs that help Las Vegas thrive,” said Gary Shapiro, Executive Chair and CEO, CTA. “This year’s Green Grants build on that legacy by supporting local initiatives that deliver tangible benefits for future generations. We are honored to partner once again with the city and applaud the mayor’s vision for a more sustainable Las Vegas.”

The projects complement Las Vegas’s broader sustainability strategy and prove how collaboration among local governments, community partners, and the tech industry can deliver practical, scalable solutions.

“Las Vegas continues to evolve as a city focused on smart growth and long-term sustainability, and today’s announcement reflects that progress,” said Mayor Berkley. “We’re grateful to CTA for supporting projects that improve infrastructure and contribute to a more energy-efficient city. CES brings innovation to Las Vegas each year, and these projects help turn that innovation into lasting impact.

Since its inception, the Green Grants Program has contributed nearly $1 million to sustainability initiatives throughout Southern Nevada, supporting projects ranging from solar installations to food rescue expansion, urban forestry and more.

The funding will be administered through the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit that enables corporate and philanthropic partners to support city-aligned initiatives through a transparent, accountable, and tax-deductible structure. The Fund operates independently of the City of Las Vegas and is designed to facilitate public-private partnerships that deliver measurable community impact.

CES 2026 will highlight the essential role of technology in building more resilient communities. Exhibitors across the show floor will demonstrate innovations that help conserve resources and support long-term sustainability.
