Avast Omni

Company: Avast

Category: Cybersecurity & Personal Privacy

Avast Omni aims to fully protect users and their families online, on any device, from anywhere.

Motivated by the knowledge that anything connected to the internet can be hacked, the Avast team developed a solution hub that plugs into the user’s home router to control everything connected to it.
Avast Omni addresses three major premises:

  • Protection at home: Avast Omni protects the home network, securing all the devices that are connected. From knowing who is on your network to getting alerts if there is suspicious activity, the system allows users to shut down connections from unknown devices.

  • Protection on-the-go: The app offers on-device security for computers and mobile devices, allowing users to carry privacy protection even when they are away from home.

  • Protection for the family: Advanced parental controls enable parents to manage children’s online activity to foster healthy digital habits.

With solutions that can cater to homes, businesses or other partners like mobile carriers, the Avast team is working to cultivate the next generation of cybersecurity experts.

The Tech Behind It

The Avast team focuses on four major technologies in developing their cybersecurity solutions.

  • Malware detection and blocking.

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

  • Location technologies.

  • IoT security.

The Avast Omni is driven by Avast’s threat detection system, AI technology that automatically identifies and blocks malicious or suspicious activity in seconds. Avast Omni is able to prevent privacy data leaks and device hacking, and by continuously learning the behavior of devices and processing data in real-time, Avast Omni provides custom and efficient security and privacy for users.

Avast has invested in cloud-based technology to protect IoT devices. What this means is that solutions like Avast Omni, which are connected to the router and through products for other operating systems, collect statistics about traffic flows in the network and sends data to the cloud. Through machine learning, the Avast Intelligence Platform will determine the maliciousness of the flow or device, then instruct the Avast product to block that affected device, if needed. The user can simply manage and interact with the system through the app.

“People want to be confident that their security solutions are working hard to protect their families without facing difficult installation or inconvenient operation,” the Avast team said.
