COVID Testing Policy FAQs for Attendees Entering the U.S. from China, Hong Kong and Macau


Why did CTA implement this policy?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that as of Jan. 5, travelers to the U.S. from China, Hong Kong and Macau will be required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test to their airline before boarding. Given this announcement, CES will also require exhibitors and attendees traveling from China, Hong Kong or Macau and arriving in the U.S. on Jan. 1-4 to provide at CES badge pick up a negative COVID-19 test, taken within the last 48 hours.

Where can I go for testing?

  • We strongly encourage testing prior to departing to the U.S.

  • Those in need of COVID-19 testing upon arrival at CES can visit the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) South Hall beginning at 7 AM on Jan. 2 and will be administered a COVID-19 rapid antigen test at no cost. LVCC South Hall testing will mirror Customer Service Center hours.

    • Jan. 2-4: 7 AM-7 PM

    • Jan. 5-6: 7 AM-6 PM

    • Jan. 7: 8 AM-6 PM

    • Jan. 8: 8 AM-4 PM

Will CES accept tests that were obtained outside official venues?

Yes, CES will accept a PCR or rapid antigen test that was administered by a healthcare professional provided that the attendee has documentation that includes their full name and date the test was administered. Tests must be administered by a U.S. or Canadian testing provider. Attendees with a test result that meets these criteria can obtain a badge at a Venetian ExpoCustomer Service Center location in addition to LVCC South Hall. Do I need to test if I arrived in the U.S. on or before Dec. 31?

No test is required for all CES registrants traveling from China, Hong Kong or Macau who arrived in the U.S. (or area not impacted by the CDC order) on or prior to Dec. 31. Proceed to LVCC South Hall or a Customer Service Center located in the Venetian Expo to obtain your badge.

Do I need to provide proof of a negative test if I depart on or after Jan. 5?

No, you only need to provide proof of departure on or after Jan. 5 at the LVCC South Hall or a Customer Service Center location in the Venetian Expo to obtain your badge. 

What happens if I test positive?

Those that test positive will receive consultation from a medical advisor and be escorted out of CES venues. You will not be able to obtain a badge.

Can they re-test at a later date and gain admittance?

If five (5) days have passed since the initial positive test, attendees can visit the LVCC South Hall testing facility and obtain another test.

Will CES provide refunds for attendees that test positive and cannot attend CES?

CES will provide refunds for attendees from the impacted areas that test positive onsite and cannot attend CES.
