Deborah A.P. Hersman

President and CEO, National Safety Council

Deborah Hersman is a recognized safety leader. She is the president and CEO of the National Safety Council, with a vision of eliminating preventable deaths in our lifetime at work, in our homes and communities, and on the road. Ms. Hersman is current Chairwoman for the Road to Zero Coalition, which aims to end roadway fatalities by 2050. She has served on the Department of Transportation Advisory Committee on Automation in Transportation and regularly testifies on automated technology implementation that can save lives and eliminate preventable fatalities. Prior to joining NSC, she served as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, was a senior advisor to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and a congressional staffer. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and international studies from Virginia Tech and a Master’s of Science degree in conflict analysis and resolution from George Mason University.
