Rob Simmelkjaer has served as Senior Vice President, NBC Sports Ventures since 2011. Simmelkjaer is responsible for managing the NBC Sports Ventures unit, a collection of NBC Sports properties including NBC Sports Radio and podcasts, Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and Spartan Race. In 2017 the NBC Sports ventures team he leads launched the Universal Open esports tournament, NBC’s first foray into esports, featuring the popular esports title Rocket League.

In addition to managing the commercial properties above, Simmelkjaer is charged with exploring sports, esports and gaming related investment opportunities with in coordination with Comcast Ventures. Simmelkjaer helped lead NBC Sports Group’s exploration of the youth sports technology space, leading to its 2016 acquisition of Sports Engine, a leading youth sports registration technology platform.

In addition to his executive role, Simmelkjaer serves as an on-air contributor across multiple NBCUniversal platforms, including NBC Sports, NBCSN, NBCSR, NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC. Simmelkjaer anchored MSNBC’s coverage of the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics.

Prior to joining NBC, Simmelkjaer served in various roles at ESPN, including as Vice President of International Development and Corporate Projects, Vice President and Assistant to the President, and Director of NBA Programming. During his time at ESPN, Simmelkjaer also served as an anchor & correspondent for ESPN and ABC News.

Prior to his tenure at ESPN, Simmelkjaer practiced law at two New York firms, Weil, Gotshal and Manges from 2000-2001, and Cravath, Swaine & Moore from 1997-2000.

Simmelkjaer is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School. He is a native of New York. NY. He currently lives in Westport, Connecticut.
