Terry Bienstock

Terry Bienstock is one of the nation’s most experienced and respected communications attorneys and media executives. Later, as an entrepreneur, he simultaneously founded Mobilactive Media, successfully introducing mobile marketing and advertising into the North American market, and WorldExtend, which offers cloud computing desktop solutions and application publishing for small and mid-size businesses.
He also manages and advises other ventures relating to digital media platforms, such as Video-on-Demand, digital video recorders, broadband and mobile services, and advertising models on those platforms. He facilitated and negotiated a ground-breaking commercial deal between Comcast Cable and TiVo, creating a new premium DVR service and a new advertising platform for the cable industry. Currently, he is in a venture to produce major motion pictures with Airplane! and Naked Gun director, producer and writer, David Zucker. He is an advisor to web based GoWatchIt.com, provider of movie content search engines and aggregated professional and social media based movie reviews.

Prior to this, he was the top cable lawyer in the United States as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Law and Government Affairs, for Comcast Cable Communications. In this position, he maintained business responsibility for Comcast’s Video on Demand platform, Comcast University, and claims management. He was also responsible for overseeing the Law department for the country’s leading cable and broadband communications provider, advising senior management on legal and business issues, particularly relating to new media platforms, such as VOIP, broadband, ITV, DVRs, commercial services, and mobile. He led Comcast’s state and local government affairs in the 5000 communities and 41 states in which it did business. At Comcast, he also invented patented products deployed by Comcast, started Emmy-winning governmental programming and grew Comcast's video-on-demand and digital phone services.

Prior to joining Comcast, Mr. Bienstock was in private practice, serving as lead counsel on numerous major communications, First Amendment and property rights cases for most of the top media and cable companies, and lead high visibility cases, from the first fully televised trial in the U.S. to the Noriega tapes case for CNN. He was influential in the development of the cable industry, successfully establishing cable operators’ and programmers’ rights to program, to utilize aggressive marketing strategies in competitive markets, to have security in the distribution of its programming, and to enjoy a deregulated environment in its core and new businesses. He has over 100 reported decisions to his name.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1975 (B.S. Management) and the Rutgers-Camden School of Law in 1978, Bienstock has authored several articles in leading legal publications and has spoken at well over 200 speaking engagements to trade, policy, regulatory, company and legal organizations on wide variety of business topics, including regularly at Digital Hollywood, Building Blocks, Media Summit, Advertising 2.0 and the Consumer Electronics Show.

He was inducted as a Cable Pioneer in 2010. He is a member of the Board of Overseers of Rutgers University, on the Audit Committee, Recipient of the Arthur E. Armitage Sr. Distinguished Alumni Award, President of The Montauk Observatory, and is involved with other charitable and educational endeavors.
